After refusing to disclose his starting quarterback during the week, Aaron Glenn handed the starting role to Justin Fields on Sunday. However, the quarterback had an unimpressive outing in the 27-20 win over the Cleveland Browns, raising a lot of questions about the decision.

Fields completed just 6 of 11 passes for 54 yards and one touchdown while throwing an interception. It's not the performance many expected after his outing against the Cincinnati Bengals before the bye. Glenn was questioned about the quarterback's performance in his postgame press conference, but he held off his judgment.

“I have to look at the film,” Glenn said. “I know this, I wasn't happy just in general, offense or defense, right? In that first half. But I thought in the second half, we did some things that gave us a chance to win. And at the end of the day, that's all that matters.

“So I get a chance to look at the film, really look at that. And any issues that we have, we're gonna work our ass off to correct them during the week and get ready for next week.”

Justin Fields’ performance opens up the possibility for Tyrod Taylor to return to the starting lineup against the New England Patriots on Thursday night. Aaron Glenn started Taylor against the Carolina Panthers in Week 7, but he was also not convincing, throwing for 126 yards with two interceptions.

Aaron Glenn comments on potential distraction after trading top players

The New York Jets traded away some of their top stars just before the trade deadline, with the likes of Sauce Gardner, Quinnen Williams and Michael Carter II heading out. Aaron Glenn addressed the distractions after the move sparked a lot of criticism within the NFL world.

“I said this to you guys before, that this is a league of change and you're never getting away from that,” Glenn said after the game on Sunday. “And that's players, that's coaches, it happens in this league. “But the one thing that we've been working on since the beginning of training, just being mentally tough and being able to block out all the negativity that these guys hear. All the division from within is created by a number of people. We're gonna stay with us. And we know this thing's gonna turn to where it needs to turn."

While a section of the fans sees the move made by general manager Darren Mougey as a signal to a needed rebuild of the team, others perceived a lack of ambition. Nonetheless, Aaron Glenn is confident the team is on the right path in the bid to turn around the situation.
