The New York Yankees seem to have another young arm to watch as the season unfolds, and most fans know this.
While it’s still early in the year, manager Aaron Boone didn't rule out the possibility that pitching prospect Carlos Lagrange could help the big league club at some point this season.
Speaking recently, according to Brendan Kuty of The Athletic, Boone said the organization remains willing to call on Lagrange if the situation arises later in the year.
While the young pitcher is still developing, the Yankees understand that injuries and roster needs can create unexpected opportunities, especially when the kid throws 100-plus MPH.
“As long as he logs some innings,” Boone said, “and that becomes a real need at some point, I think anything’s possible.”
For Lagrange, the focus will be on building experience and staying healthy as he continues his development in the Yankees’ system. Getting innings under his belt and improving his command will likely determine how quickly he can push his way into the show.
The Yankees have shown in recent seasons that they're willing to promote young pitchers when they feel the timing is right. I wouldn't be surprised if Lagrange is the next one.
