It’s well documented that Trey Murphy, Andrew Wiggins, Peyton Watson, Aaron Gordon, and Lu Dort are just a few of the wings that have been linked to the Los Angeles Lakers as the official start of the offseason looms closer.
That said, are there underrated perimeter assets that could unexpectedly land on the Lakers’ list of summer targets? Heavy’s Ben Stinar thinks so, suggesting that a former Atlanta Hawks all-rookie shooting guard would be a solid addition to Los Angeles’ roster.
“Sneaky Addition Los Angeles Lakers Must Consider, Stinar wrote Tuesday.“ Kevin Huerter (who was acquired via the Chicago Bulls during the season) will now become a free agent. If he is available for the right price, the former Maryland star could be a good addition to the Lakers.”
“The 27-year-old finished the regular season with averages of 10.0 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 2.6 assists per contest while shooting 45.1% from the field and 30.8% from three-point range in 69 games.”

It seems like the Pistons will let Huerter walk in free agency following an uneventful postseason. After contributing 8.6 points per game with the No. 1 seed in the Eastern Conference during the regular season in a legitimate reserve role, Huerter averaged a measly 1.2 points nightly in five playoff outings.
While the former first-round pick had a down three-point shooting this year (31.4% with the Bulls to start the season and 29.4% with the Pistons to end the season), his track record indicates he’s a proven long-range threat who could be highly effective in drive-and-kick/pitch-back scenarios in Los Angeles.
Huerter is a 36.8% career perimeter shooter, which may give the Lakers some optimism about his ability to fit the offensive mold they’re seeking.
The Maryland product won’t be a go-to target for Los Angeles, but he's an option the 17-time NBA champions could keep on the back burner.
