Jiri Kulich reveals why he didn't play most of the season for Sabres

The Buffalo Sabres still have high hopes for Jiri Kulich.

Despite that, though, the 22-year old center missed almost the entire 2025-26 season.

He played 12 games, recording three goals and two assists, but didn't take part in any action after November.

Turns out, Kulich had a very good reason.

Why wasn't Jiri Kulich playing?

Kulich told reporters on Tuesday that he had dealt with a blood clot issue.

He had a procedure done that removed the clot in March, according to The Buffalo News' Rachel Lenzi.

The good news from Kulich is this quote: "I'll be able to play hockey again."

Clearly, a blood clot isn't something to mess with. The Sabres and Kulich were careful here.

What's next for Jiri Kulich?

The No. 28 overall pick in the 2022 NHL Draft will have to make a case to reclaim a lineup spot. Young players like Zach Benson and Konsta Helenius impressed in the postseason for Buffalo.

Kulich will have to both prove he's healthy and up to speed, and that his ability is worthy of being in the lineup.

But if he can find a groove as next season approaches, Kulich will have a solid case to be back in the forward lineup.
