The developers at Blizzard recently rolled out the patch notes for Diablo 4 Season 11 (Patch 2.5.0), overhauling popular builds and classes. The new Toughness system significantly changes how your defenses work, eliminating most flat damage reduction buffs. This introduces new stats to survivability in Diablo 4, and has completely reshaped the earlier meta builds.

Here are the six most nerfed builds as seen in the latest Public Test Realm (P.T.R.) for Season 11 that ran from October 21, 2025, to October 28, 2025.

Note: The entries are arranged in no particular order.

1) Pulverize Druid

This is one of the tankiest builds in Diablo 4, once considered ‘unkillable,' and has received heavy nerfs in Season 11.

Changes:

Barrier uptime and Fortify generation have been cut down harshly, while Grizzly Rage got nerfed completely. The latter's base damage has been reduced from 60% to 40%, and damage bonus per second from 4% to 1% (capping at 25% rather than 100%). Now, Grizzly Rage begins its cooldown when it's activated rather than after it ends. Beyond that, flat damage reduction on Druid gear was replaced by the new Toughness stat, significantly cutting down survivability.

Effect:

The build can no longer be considered an uber tanky build, making it unreliable in the endgame of Diablo 4. You can still play this build (it's fun and can take some serious damage), but its ultimate survivability days are officially over.

In Season 11, you need to depend more on poison damage builds and lightning/cataclysm builds to be more effective.

2) Death Trap Rogue

Rogues in Season 11 have been hit hard, with multiple increased cooldowns and adjustments that significantly reduce any builds revolving around traps.

Changes:

The cooldown durations for both Death Traps and Poison Traps have been slightly increased, which slows down your ability to spam the skill. If you are integrating Twisting Blades in your build, its damage scaling has also been nerfed by 10%. The Combo Points specialization of Rogues now generates faster but yields less burst damage per stack.

Effect:

The former uber-explosive Trap Rogue builds are gone. While the new pacing is much smoother and allows for a balanced feel in gameplay, trap-reset loops are slower, which hinders high-end Rogue gameplay.

This will eventually allow players to shift towards Rapid Fire Rogues and Penetrating Shot Rogues for pushing the endgame of Diablo 4.

3) Bone Spear Necromancer

Necromancers in Season 11 have received a mixed bag of nerfs and buffs. They took a massive nerf in their Fortify stat from every source.

Changes:

  • Fortify on attack reduced from 3% to .1% of Maximum Life - Skeleton Mage, Bone
  • Fortify reduced from 5% to .2% of Maximum Life - Necrotic Carapace
  • Fortify reduced from 2.5% to .5% of Maximum Life - Drain Vitality
  • Fortify reduced from 1-4% to 1% of Maximum Life - Mutilator Plate
  • Minions' chance to Fortify reduced from 15.5-20% to 5-7% - Tempering

Players using Blood Wave along with Bone Spear to create a well-balanced synergy will be disappointed due to the nerfs it received:

  • Inherent Blood Wave Fortifies affix removed. Damage Reduction while Fortified affix replaced with Intelligence affix - Kessime's Legacy
  • The Inherent affix where Bone Spear reduces Blood Wave's cooldown has been removed - Indira's Memory

Effect:

Fully caster-type Necromancers now can’t rely on the previous burst windows and survivability. While Golem Minion builds benefit from Kalan’s Edict, Bone Spear builds become less effective and feel more squishy. That said, although this build won't dominate the endgame like previous seasons of Diablo 4, it is still fun to play and speedfarm with.

4) Whirlwind (Fortify) Barbarian

Season 11 has delivered impressive damage buffs to the Barbarian class, but it takes tremendous nerfs in its capability to stay tanky due to nerfed Fortify stats.

Changes:

  • Fortify reduced from 20% to 10% of Maximum Life - Bash (Enhanced)
  • Fortify reduced from 30% to 10% of Maximum Life - Iron Skin (Enhanced)
  • Fortify reduced from 15% to 8% of Maximum Life - War Cry (Enhanced)
  • While Rallying Cry is active, gain 1% Maximum Life as Fortify every second - Rallying Cry (Strategic)
  • Fortify reduced from 10% to 3% of Maximum Life - Irrepressible (Passive)
  • Fortify reduced from .6% to .1% of Maximum Life - Thick Skin (Passive)

In multiple cases, the Damage Reduction stats have been reworked as Maximum Life stats.

Effect:

While the Barbarian’s Kick and Iron Maelstrom setup is tougher than ever, legacy builds like Whirlwind fail to reach their potential in Season 11 due to weakened Fortify generation. This allows Barbarians to dish out more damage but lose their tankiness.

5) Barrier/teleport Sorcerer (Glass Cannon)

Teleport Sorcerers are now more powerful, but their defensive stats have been nerfed significantly (Image via Blizzard Entertainment)Teleport Sorcerers are now more powerful, but their defensive stats have been nerfed significantly (Image via Blizzard Entertainment)

The already-squishy Sorcerers take major nerfs in terms of defense in Season 11 but gain heightened offensive capabilities as a trade-off. This allows them to dish out more damage, but they lose their defensive stats.

Changes:

  • Teleport dazes enemies at its end point for 1.5 seconds - Shimmering Teleport
  • Damage Reduction for each Active Ball Lightning affix replaced with Intelligence - Okun's Catalyst
  • Resource Generation and Maximum affix replaced with Resource Generation. Damage Reduction affix replaced with Intelligence affix - Axial Conduit
  • Damage Reduction per Crackling Energy charge affix replaced with Cooldown Reduction affix - Esadora's Overflowing Cameo

Enchantments have also been reworked, which makes them difficult to use with older builds from previous seasons.

  • Healing Potions apply Ice Armor and have a 25% chance to refund themselves - Ice Armor Enchantment
  • Evade becomes a Teleport with a 5 second Cooldown that cannot be reduced - Teleport Enchantment

Effect:

Teleport and Nova spam Glass Canon Sorcerers are now forced to play smarter due to the Barrier and Damage reduction nerf. So if you are running Fireball, Blizzard, or Chain Lightning builds, you get up to a 35% damage boost in Season 11, but you will need to shift towards positioning play for improved survivability.

6) Earth-Bear Hybrid Druid

Earth Bear Druids face Fortify nerfs across the board, making them more difficult to play (Image via Blizzard Entertainment)Earth Bear Druids face Fortify nerfs across the board, making them more difficult to play (Image via Blizzard Entertainment)

Druids thrive on hybrid build crafting, so this season, the nerfing of Fortification has hit them hard. Players who run Earth-Bear Hybrid builds will be hit with almost every global change to Fortify.

Changes:

  • Fortify stat scaling is changed across skills like Maul, Roar, Earthen Bulwark, and Grizzly Rage, making it unreliable.

Spirit regeneration effects have been significantly reduced across the board.

  • Your Maximum Spirit is increased by 50. Casting a Skill with a cooldown increases Spirit Regeneration by 15-25 per second for 8 seconds - Balanced Aspect

Effect:

These balance changes alter how shapeshifting-hybrid Druids work in the current meta. The defensive play of Druids takes a hit, but the Bear hybrid builds are still fun to play. Expect harsh punishment henceforth if you mess up your timing in high-end gameplay.

Honorable mentions

  • In Season 11, Spiritborn builds come out on top, especially if you are running Eagle- or Jaguar-themed kits.
  • Kick Barbarian receives tremendous buffs from increased range to 3 meters (1.5 meters previously) and can now reduce the cooldown of mobility skills by 5 seconds per enemy hit.
  • Cataclysm Druid excels in Season 11 with tremendous burst capability even with Fortification nerfs.

Season 11 of Diablo 4 marks a major shift in the game's meta by eliminating tank-stacking builds. With the new Toughness system, Diablo 4 replaces its Flat Damage Reduction scaling, which ends up completely uprooting previous meta builds that excelled on their defensive stats. So, in the upcoming season, you will need to rely on more high-risk gameplay to benefit from the new stat balances in place.
