Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner raised the bar for tennis even higher in 2025. They've been clinical at the Majors and seem to be a level above from their peers.

While Sinner claimed the honors in Melbourne and Wimbledon, Alcaraz showed his class by winning in Paris and New York. The Italian ended his season by winning the ATP Finals and Alcaraz earned the top spot in the ATP Rankings this year.

On the other hand, the competition was more balanced on the women's side. There were four different winners at the Majors and Aryna Sabalenka managed to hold on to the top spot in the WTA Rankings.

As we gear up for another exciting season in 2025, let's look at the best matches of the year and some incredible stories of the year.

5) Madison Keys vs Iga Swiatek - Australian Open - 2025

Madison Keys has been a top contender on the women's tour for almost a decade. Despite giving it her all in the last few years, she couldn't make a significant impact at the Majors.

Cut to 2025, Keys stunned the tennis fraternity by winning the Australian Open. She not only defeated Iga Swiatek in the semifinal but also overpowered Aryna Sabalenka to lift the title.

The American was made to work hard for her first title in Melbourne. After cruising past Elena Rybakina and Elina Svitolina in the initial few rounds, she showed her class by defeating Iga Swiatek, 5-7, 6-1, 7-6 (8).

Many believe Keys' close win against Swiatek made the difference and set her up for another three-set win against Sabalenka. She defeated five seeded players en route to her first Major title in Melbourne.

4) Coco Gauff vs Aryna Sabalenka - French Open - 2025

Next up, the tennis fever moved to the clay courts of Paris. Keys' victory at the Australian Open inspired the underdogs to stake their claim for the title. However, winning the French Open meant stopping Iga Swiatek's three-year unbeaten streak in Paris.

Aryna Sabalenka seemed to be flying high with successful runs in Miami and Madrid before the French Open. She was the top seed and a heavy favourite to secure the crown at the clay court Major.

With all the attention towards Iga Swiatek and Aryna Sabalenka, Coco Gauff silently found her rhythm with runner-up finishes in Madrid and Rome. She continued her rich vein of form at the French Open and reached the final.

Sabalenka may have done her a favor by defeating Iga Swiatek in the semifinal, but Gauff made no mistake against the Belarusian in the final. Despite losing the first set against Sabalenka, she secured a brilliant comeback and stole the limelight to win 2025 French Open, 6-7 (5), 6-2, 6-4.

The fight for glory also heated up on the men's side at Roland Garros this year. Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner shared the honors at all Major events in 2024, and Sinner preseved that statistic by defending his title in Melbourne.

Alcaraz showed his intent to bounce back with successful runs in Rotterdam, Monte-Carlo and Rome. He then defeated Sinner at the Italian Open final and also humbled the top seed to reclaim his French Open title.

The duo battled each other for five-hours and 29 minutes in one of the best matches in the history of tennis this year. Alcaraz saved three match points in the fourth set, saved eight break points and outfoxed Sinner, 4-6, 6-7(4), 6-4, 7-6(3), 7-6(2).

2) Barbora Krejcikova vs Taylor Townsend - US Open 2025

Jannik Sinner and Iga Swiatek captured their first title at the Wimbledon Championships this year. Krejcikova was the defending champion on the women's side, but couldn't make the difference due to lack of match fitness and was eliminated in the third round.

Cut to the 2025 US Open, where once again there were no clear favorites to win the title. One of the stories of the event this year was Taylor Townsend's incredible run to the fourth round.

The American started her campaign with sensational wins over Antonia Ruzic and Jelena Ostapenko in the initial few rounds. She then stunned the fifth seed Mirra Andreeva in straight sets, 7-5, 6-2.

Townsend seemed to be well on course to make her first appearance in quarterfinals, but Krejcikova outsmarted her 1-6, 7-6 (13), 6-3. The Czech's performance broke American hearts and showed her sheer resilience to stay alive in New York. Her run was eventually ended by Jessica Pegula in the quarterfinals.

1) Alexander Bublik vs Jack Draper - French Open 2025

Alexander Bublik rise to the top 15 was one of the most incredible stories this year. After early exits in Melbourne, Rotterdam, Dubai, Doha, Indian Wells, and Miami, the Kazakh flipped the switch to reach the quarterfinals of the French Open for the first time in his career.

Bublik created many moments that could make the highlight reel in 2025, but his victory over Jack Draper in the French Open quarterfinals was quite special. Despite losing the first set against an in-form Draper, he defeated the Brit in four-sets, 5-7, 6-3, 6-2, 6-4.

Bublik not only ended Draper's brilliant start to the season, but also set himself up for more success in 2025. He continued his rich vein of form on grass by defeating Jannik Sinner in Halle and also achieved success in Gstaad, Kitzbuhel, and Hangzhou this year.
