The San Francisco 49ers were able to get back into the win column after losing to the Houston Texans in Week 8. Backup quarterback Mac Jones and the 49ers beat the New York Giants with a final score of 34-24.
Jones put together a pair of touchdowns while the run game punched in two more. The offense tallied 380 yards of total offense in the win.
However, the 49ers still can't shake the injury bug they have been dealt all season long. This time, the defensive line took another hit.
49ers EDGE Mykel Williams feared to have torn ACL in Week 9 win
According to a 49ers insider, Cam Inman, 2025 first-round pick Mykel Williams is feared to have a torn ACL that would shut him down for the rest of the season.
Williams, 21, suffered the injury in the final minutes of San Francisco's Week 9 win over the Giants. It will be another injury that MetLife Stadium's turf has caused. Giants' wide receiver Malik Nabers suffered a torn ACL of his own on the same field earlier in the season.
Head coach Kyle Shanahan spoke on the young pass rusher's injury, saying, "He’s just down. I told him, 'You never know (until MRI). Hopefully it's not the worst. If it is, it sucks for this year, but you’ll be back next year and it won’t affect you at all.'"
Williams was taken with San Francisco's first pick in last April's draft (No. 11 overall). Through eight games this season, he's registered 19 total tackles and one sack.
If the rumors are true, he will join other notable 49ers defensive players who are out for the year, including linebacker Fred Warner (ankle) and edge rusher Nick Bosa (torn ACL).
