WWE Superstar Jacob Fatu was recently written off television for what is reportedly a "non-wrestling" related injury. The former Bloodline member was expected to compete against Drew McIntyre in a number one contender's match for the WWE Championship two weeks ago on SmackDown. However, he was shockingly found attacked backstage and lying in a pool of blood.
There is no concrete timeline for the former United States Champion's return, with rumors claiming his absence could extend into 2026 as well. While it seems unlikely that he will be back in time for Survivor Series WarGames, a return could be on the cards before the end of the year. In either case, here are four ways he could return to WWE once he is fit.
4. He could confront his attacker right away
Drew McIntyre confirmed that he had nothing to do with the backstage attack on Fatu, ruling him out as the mystery assailant. Fans have been discussing Randy Orton, Jimmy Uso, and Cody Rhodes as the suspects who could have taken out the Samoan Werewolf.

Regardless of who attacked him, Jacob Fatu could immediately return and exact revenge in the ring.
3. Answer Ilja Dragunov's Open Challenge
The Mad Dragon has continued the United States Championship Open Challenge since winning the title from Sami Zayn. After spending a year away from WWE due to injury, this seems like the best way to remind the fans what the NXT standout is all about.
In all likelihood, Dragunov will remain champion at least for the next few months, and Fatu could return to challenge him for the title. This would be a strong way to reintroduce him and potentially put a title on him right away.
2. Challenge Cody Rhodes for the WWE Championship
Before he was attacked, Jacob Fatu looked poised to become the number one contender for the WWE Title. Upon his return, he could be directly put into the title picture, and he could step up to Cody Rhodes and dare him to put his gold on the line.
There is a chance that it was Rhodes who put Fatu out of action, which could be revealed later to turn him heel. If so, it could catapult the Samoan Werewolf into being the next big babyface for the company and begin a meaningful feud for the championship.
1. Jacob Fatu could return as a surprise entrant in the Royal Rumble
Surprise Royal Rumble returns never go out of fashion. Since Jacob Fatu is expected to spend a few months away from action, at least. If his hiatus extends till January, it would be a wise decision to have him return in the 30-man battle royale next year.
Whether or not he goes on to win the match is a separate question, but a surprise return in the match would be sufficient to get people excited about him once again. It remains to be seen how the creative team books his return, after what was an incredible year for the Samoan Werewolf.
