Things have been going downhill for Jon Moxley since he lost his AEW World Championship at All In: Texas earlier this year. He failed to lead the Death Riders to victory in their Lights Out Steel Cage Match at Forbidden Door and only managed to beat Darby Allin in their All Out: Toronto Coffin Match with help from Pac. The "One True King" then stunned the world when he submitted to Darby in their "I Quit" bout at WrestleDream 2025 last month.
Since then, Moxley has been struggling to bounce back to winning ways, first accepting a DQ loss against Kyle O'Reilly while on the verge of tapping. His rematch with The Violent Artist ended in a double countout, and more recently on AEW Collision, Moxley (courtesy of Allin's interference) lost to Roderick Strong via countout. His loss to the Paragon member cost the Death Riders the advantage in their upcoming Blood and Guts match against Allin, Strong, O'Reilly, Mark Briscoe, and Orange Cassidy this week on Dynamite.
If the violent double steel cage bout this Wednesday results in the Death Riders again losing, the faction might betray and eject Moxley in favor of a new leader, especially if Moxley is in any way responsible for the loss. Such a turn could take place at Full Gear 2025, the Tony Khan-led promotion's upcoming pay-per-view. If an angle like this does indeed unfold, let us consider three directions for Jon Moxley's career.
#1. Jon Moxley could go on a brief hiatus and return later to feud with the Death Riders
The Death Riders pride themselves on being the best at the craft of in-ring violence. The group has been portrayed as a dominant force since its formation at WrestleDream last year. However, the stable has suffered several major losses, which have dimmed the mystique and ambience of menace that marked its early run. Notably, Jon Moxley was the one to lose the stable's first set of belts—the AEW World Trios Championships - while substituting for Pac during their title match against The Opps in April.
The Purveyor of Violence then dropped his Men's World Title to Hangman Page months later at All In: Texas, and failed to recapture the strap from The Cowboy in their rematch, with everyone banned from ringside. Despite picking up a few victories over the next couple of months, Moxley has seemingly lost his former edge, especially since quitting against Darby Allin at WrestleDream.
Given how the former members of the BCC turned on Bryan Danielson because they believed The American Dragon had become a shell of his former self, a similar fate might await Moxley at AEW Full Gear 2025. The Death Riders could violently eject him from the group and even subject him to the steel-chair-neck-stomp treatment they carried out on Danielson, Chuck Taylor, Will Ospreay, and others.
Such an angle could write Moxley off for some time. After a brief hiatus, the former world champion might come back with a vengeance, determined to dismantle the army he once led.
#2. Jon Moxley could reunite with Eddie Kingston and set his sights on the AEW World Trios Titles
Jon Moxley hasn't shared the ring with Eddie Kingston since he, Claudio Castagnoli, and Bryan Danielson defeated the former Continental Champion and FTR in a tag match on the February 28, 2024, episode of Dynamite. The Mad King, it should be noted, won the Continental Title by defeating Moxley in the finals of the 2023 Continental Classic at that year's Worlds End pay-per-view. Although the two men had been on opposing sides for most of their last encounters, they have continued to share a mutually respectful (yet competitive) relationship both inside and outside the squared circle.
Eddie has not had a significant on-screen interaction with Moxley in well over a year now. He came back at AEW All Out: Toronto after recovering from a broken leg, and has been performing in singles and tag matches lately, along with his new ally, Hook.
The duo teamed with Hangman Page last week on Dynamite to go after the World Trios Titles, but were unsuccessful, as Powerhouse Hobbs submitted The Cold-Hearted Handsome Devil to retain the belts for The Opps. After Full Gear 2025, Kingston and Hook could once again pursue the trios belts, but this time with Jon Moxley as their partner.

They fought side by side as allies against the JAS in 2022 as well. Their kayfabe relationship first became strained when Moxley started teaming with his arch-nemesis, Claudio Castagnoli, in the then-BCC.
If The Death Riders, led by The Swiss Cyborg, turn on the erstwhile Lunatic Fringe at Full Gear, Moxley could afterwards reconnect with Eddie and accept his help to take down his old faction. Then, along with Hook, Kingston, and Moxley, they could go after the AEW World Trios Championship.
#3. Jon Moxley could enter the 2025 AEW Continental Classic
In 2023, Jon Moxley took part in the inaugural edition of the Continental Classic. The original Death Rider joined the tournament's Gold League block and picked up wins over Mark Briscoe, Jay Lethal, Rush, and Swerve Strickland, but he lost to Jay White. He then punched his ticket to the finals by defeating The Realest and The Switchblade in a Triple Threat semi-final, but ultimately lost to Eddie Kingston at Worlds End, as mentioned above.
Moxley was reigning as the AEW World Champion during last year's Continental Classic, so he didn't participate in the tournament. Things have changed now, however, as the Cincinnati native no longer holds the World Title. After this week's Dynamite: Blood and Guts and Full Gear 2025 later this month, he might no longer have the Death Riders in his corner. Afterwards, in a bid to taste gold again and regain his on-screen legitimacy, Moxley could enter this year's Continental Classic - especially if anyone from the Death Riders decides to do the same.

Alternatively, the spot could go to Pac, who could make his Continental Classic debut in 2025. Regardless of the field, however, the tournament could serve as the stage for Jon Moxley's comeback story, or at least the beginning of it.
