Tony Khan's Jacksonville-based promotion, AEW, has become a major landscape for top names to thrive in their careers. The company has also attracted the attention of a former WWE United States Champion, who has expressed interest in joining them.
The aforementioned star in question is Mr. Kennedy, later known as Mr Anderson in TNA. He was a popular name in WWE during the mid-2000s and touted as a future top star, winning multiple titles and wrestling legends like The Undertaker, John Cena, and Randy Orton. However, a series of injuries and reported disputes with marquee names led to his eventual release from the company in 2009.
Despite that, he continued to wrestle for different promotions, including a great stint with TNA Wrestling. In a recent conversation with Elite Wrestle Talk on 99.9 Punk World Radio FM, Mr Kennedy stated that he still had a lot of gas left in the tank and would consider an offer from AEW if it came.
“Yes absolutely. I’m in the business to, I wanna tell stories, I wanna entertain people. I still have gas in the tank and I feel like there is some opportunities there with some people. So yeah that’s definitely something I would totally entertain.”- H/T FightfulMr Kennedy reveals reason for being a good fit for AEW
All Elite Wrestling has emerged as a formidable competitor to WWE in recent years, with Tony Khan's regime offering its stars considerable creative freedom. Witnessing this, Mr. Kennedy said that while he did not have the opportunity in WWE to become more edgy with his character, AEW extending that to its stars makes him a good fit for their roster.
When I first got to WWE we couldn’t even say ‘darn’ or ‘dang it’, it was kind of hamstringing. As you saw when I got to TNA I was able to be a little edgier. I really wish those training wheels had been taken off me in WWE. So with AEW having the free reign that they do, it would be a good fit I think.”With a successful career carved in the wrestling world, it will be interesting to see if Tony Khan will offer Mr Kennedy a spot in his locker room in the future.
