3 Surprise returns Tony Khan must book at AEW Worlds End 2025

In about four days, AEW will host the final pay-per-view of its calendar year, Worlds End 2025. The event will emanate from the NOW Arena in Hoffman Estates, IL, and will not only present several high-stakes bouts, including both title and non-title matches, but it will also stage the finals of the Continental Classic.

Since its inaugural edition in 2023, All Elite Wrestling has made sure that not only does the Worlds End PPV feature the company's usual brand and quality of in-ring action, but the promotion has also made it a point to heighten every iteration of the event with some kind of major surprise or return. In 2023, for instance, MJF shockingly lost his AEW World Title to Samoa Joe and was then betrayed by Adam Cole. At last year's show, Adam Copeland returned from injury alongside FTR to confront Jon Moxley and the Death Riders.

Surprise comebacks are usually a sure-fire way to generate more hype around a pay-per-view, and Tony Khan is thus not beyond resorting to them. With that in mind, let us consider three returns TK could consider booking for Worlds End 2025.

Spoiler on Roman Reigns vs. Cody Rhodes - Check Here!

#1. Adam Copeland and Christian Cage could return to ambush FTR

At All In: Texas, Nick Wayne and The Patriarchy turned on Christian Cage, and The Prodigy was poised to take out The Patriarch with a con-chair-to as Dax Harwood and Cash Wheeler watched approvingly. However, the proceedings were interrupted by the returning Adam Copeland, who chased the heels away and saved his close friend-turned-bitter rival. Some time later, Christian made the save for The Rated-R Superstar, and afterward, the two veterans officially revived their legendary tag team, agreeing to join forces to help deal with each other's problems.

Cope and Cage defeated The Patriarchy's Kip Sabian and Luchasaurus (subbing in for Nick Wayne) at AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door 2025. Then at All Out: Toronto, the erstwhile Edge and Christian battled and defeated FTR. After the match, however, Dax and Cash restrained Copeland and carried out a heinous attack on his wife, Beth, who had shown up during the bout to foil Stokely Hathaway's interference. The Ultimate Opportunist told Christian in the aftermath that he was leaving indefinitely to take care of his family, and the duo have not been featured on programming since.

During their absence, FTR became AEW World Tag Team Champions by beating Brodido at Full Gear, and last week at Holiday Bash, The Top Guys successfully defended their straps against The Bang Bang Gang. As per spoilers, Harwood and Wheeler will once again battle Austin Gunn and Juice Robinson for the tag belts in a Chicago Street Fight at Worlds End 2025. The Living Legends are likely going to retain their championships at the pay-per-view, but afterwards, Dax and Cash could get jumped by the returning Cope and Cage.

Copeland and Christian could ambush FTR not only to retaliate for their attack on Beth Phoenix, but also to demand a shot at their World Tag Team Championship, citing their earlier victory over them.

#2. Kamille could return to cost her former "boss" her AEW Tag Team Title match

Although she debuted at last year's Blood and Guts as Mercedes Mone's formidable hired muscle, Kamille's working relationship with The CEO soured not long after. After Kris Statlander handed the former NWA World Women's Champion her first singles loss in the company, and owing to the latter's failure at incapacitating the Galaxy's Greatest Alien as per her boss' instructions, Mercedes began to display markedly disrespectful behavior toward Kamille, who, as a result, walked out on the erstwhile Sasha Banks on Dynamite: Thanksgiving Eve last year.

Later on Rampage, however, The Brickhouse was found laid out backstage, having been ambushed by a mystery assailant (who many assumed to have been Mercedes). Kamille has not appeared on AEW television since then, and despite Tony Khan teasing her return earlier this year, she has yet to come back to programming. "Ultimo" Mone, on the other hand, has continued to thrive, winning even more championships over the past year, though she has also lost a couple of them recently.

This coming weekend at Worlds End 2025, Mercedes will be teaming up with Athena to challenge The Babes of Wrath for the AEW Women's World Tag Team Titles. Since the recently crowned Willow Nightingale and Harley Cameron should ideally retain in their first defense, Tony Khan could have The Boss and The Fallen Goddess lose the bout due to outside interference from Kamille, who could distract or take out Mone, allowing the champions to secure the win. After the PPV, the powerhouse could pursue and maybe even end Mercedes' TBS Title reign.

#3. Former WWE Superstar Andrade El Idolo could make his All Elite return

Soon after Andrade's shocking AEW comeback on the Sixth Anniversary edition of Dynamite, the luchador unexpectedly disappeared from television. Subsequently, news broke that WWE had sent a cease-and-desist to All Elite Wrestling for using the former NXT Champion, whose appearance was allegedly in violation of a year-long non-compete.

In recent interviews, El Idolo has claimed that the sports entertainment juggernaut had activated the clause in question only after his All Elite Wrestling return and revealed that he was in talks with the company to negotiate a faster resolution to their legal situation. After Andrade's multiple recent indie appearances, it was revealed that the erstwhile La Sombra was finally free to sign with AEW.

Fans have already shared their anticipation of the former US Champion's potentially imminent All Elite return. To strike while the iron is hot, Tony Khan could bring Andrade back at Worlds End 2025. The former LFI member could reunite with the Don Callis Family, the faction he joined this past October, and three of whose members have matches at the PPV for this year's Continental Classic. Furthermore, El Idolo could go after and resume his feud with former World Champion Kenny Omega.
