The Vancouver Canucks were on the wrong end of a slugfest on Monday night at Amerant Bank Arena. The Canucks lost an 8-5 decision against the Florida Panthers. The Canucks were down 5-3 heading into the third period. But the Canucks scored twice to draw even.
Unfortunately for Vancouver, the Cats pulled away with three goals late in the third to ice the seventh home win of the season. A Panthers’ team record 15 players registered at least one point, including goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky.
Elias Pettersson scored twice for the Vancouver Canucks, with Filip Hronek (PPG), Drew O’Connor, and Jake DeBrusk (PPG) getting the other tallies. Meanwhile, Seth Jones scored twice for the Florida Panthers, with A.J. Greer, Luke Kunin, Evan Rodrigues, Anton Lundell, Sam Bennett, and Brad Marchand (EN) getting the other goals for Florida.
Sergei Bobrovsky passed Jacques Plante for ninth on the NHL’s all-time wins list for goaltenders.
The Panthers outshot the Canucks 41-15 on the night. So, here’s a look at the three least impressive Vancouver Canucks players from their Monday night loss to the Florida Panthers.
3 least impressive Vancouver Canucks players from loss to Florida Panthers
#3 Jiri Patera
The Vancouver Canucks tossed young goaltender Jiri Patera into the fire on Monday night. The club had little choice given the injury to starting goaltender Thatcher Demko last week. Given the awful defensive effort by the Canucks, Patera deserves a pass despite giving up seven goals on 40 shots.
Still, the Vancouver netminder did not have a good showing in his first NHL appearance since the 2023-24 season when he played for the Vegas Golden Knights.
#2 Tyler Myers
The Vancouver Canucks veteran defenseman continues to have a less-than-impressive season. On Monday night, Tyler Myers hit the ice for over 19 minutes across 21 shifts. He did not register a shot on goal while blocking four.
However, he racked up four total penalty minutes, ending the night a minus-2, despite getting an assist on the night.
Here’s a look at a particularly tough play for the veteran blueliner:
Carter Verhaeghe psyched Myers out, then dished the puck to Seth Jones. The goal made the game 7-5 and essentially put it out of reach for the Canucks.
#1 Pierre-Oliver Joseph
Pierre-Oliver Joseph did not have a good night for the Vancouver Canucks. He hit the ice for over 14 minutes across 20 shifts. However, he was a minus-3 on the night. He did not register any shots on goal or block any.
He, along with the other Elias Pettersson, was part of an unspectacular seven-defenseman setup for coach Adam Foote.
The Canucks will look to get back on track on Thursday night as they take on the Dallas Stars at Rogers Arena.
