The Toronto Maple Leafs lost a hard-fought 3-2 game to the upstart Chicago Blackhawks on Saturday night at the United Center. For the second game in a row, the Maple Leafs let the lead slip away. This time, however, the club was unable to force overtime.

Colton Dach scored the game-winner at the 15:35 mark of the third period for the Chicago Blackhawks. Teuvo Teravainen and Ryan Green scored the others for Chicago. Meanwhile, Nick Robertson got his fifth of the season for the Toronto Maple Leafs, with Morgan Rielly getting the other.

Joseph Woll made 29 saves in his first game back in the lineup for Toronto.

So, here’s a look at the three least impressive Toronto Maple Leafs players from their loss to the Chicago Blackhawks on Saturday night.

#3 Jake McCabe

Jake McCabe had an overall decent game for the Toronto Maple Leafs on Saturday night. He hit the ice for nearly 25 minutes across 30 shifts. He had one shot on goal and two blocks.

However, he was a minus-2 on the night, with his role in the game-winner being crucial in sinking the Leafs. Here’s a look at the goal as shown on the Blackhawks’ official X account:

The booming point shot from Louis Crevier got tipped in front by Colton Dach. Had McCabe tied up Dach’s stick or moved him from the front of the net, Woll could have had a chance to make the save.

Instead, McCabe screened his own goalie, leading to the back-breaking goal.

#2 Dakota Mermis

The Maple Leafs’ third-pairing defenseman hit the ice for just 8:20 on the night across 14 shifts. While he managed a shot on goal, he wasn’t precisely the most productive player for Toronto.

What makes things more concerning is that the Leafs’ bottom pair has been woefully ineffective, leading Craig Berube to pretty much shorten his bench to four blueliners.

#1 Philippe Myers

The Toronto Maple Leafs blueliner was toast against the Blackhawks. He was on the ice for just 8:47 across a team low 12 shifts. He was a minus-2, with this particular goal exposing Myers’ lack of effectiveness.

Let’s take a look:

With the Leafs leading 2-1, the Blackhawks rushed into the Toronto zone. Frank Nazar carried the puck over the Toronto blue line with Myers attempting to wrestle the puck away. Instead, Nazar made Myers look completely out of place as he dished the puck to Teuvo Teravainen for the game-tying goal.

The Maple Leafs will be looking to recover as they head back home to face the struggling St. Louis Blues at home on Tuesday night at Scotiabank Arena.
