The Edmonton Oilers dropped a gut-wrenching 4-3 overtime decision to the Vancouver Canucks on Sunday night at Rogers Arena.

Kiefer Sherwood drove the stake through the Oilers’ hearts, scoring at 1:43 of the extra frame. Sherwood scored twice, with Brock Boeser and Elias Pettersson (PPG) adding the other tallies. Meanwhile, Leon Draisaitl scored twice for the Edmonton Oilers, with Jack Roslovic getting his first as a member of the team.

Calvin Pickard made 23 saves to support the Oilers’ comeback bid that just fell short in the end. So, here’s a look at the three least impressive Edmonton Oilers players from their overtime loss to the Vancouver Canucks on Sunday night.

#3 Jake Walman

The Edmonton Oilers blueliner had a less-than-impactful game, failing to register any points in over 19 minutes of ice time. He hit the ice for 23 shifts, without getting a shot on goal or a blocked shot.

However, it was Jake Walman’s dreadful giveaway that led to the game’s first goal. Here’s a look:

Walman’s stretch pass hardly got through, allowing the Canucks to pick the puck off. To make matters worse, the Oilers with in the midst of a line change, enabling the Canucks to come back a culminate with Boeser getting the goal.

#2 Mattias Ekholm

Mattias Ekholm, the usually defensively reliable Edmonton Oilers blueliner, has had his share of tough defensive plays over the last couple of games.

On Sunday night, Kiefer Sherwood put moves on Ekholm that made #14 in white’s head spin. Here’s a look at the goal:

Sherwood split the D while making a sick move on Ekholm to undress him in front of the net. Sherwood closed off the nifty move by beating Pickard to make the game 3-1. While the Oilers would come back to tie the game, the goal, nonetheless, put the team in a tough spot.

#1 Calvin Pickard

The Oilers' netminder did not have an atrocious game. However, he wasn’t quite up to the task when his team needed him the most. In particular, Pickard allowed goals that somehow got through.

For instance, Pettersson’s power play goal came from a sharp angle that got through somehow. Here’s a look:

The shot came from a decent angle. However, it was too far to the short side and still beat Pickard despite him getting across in time. It was a goal that a positionally solid goalie could have stopped.

Still, Pickard deserves some credit for keeping the game close for the Oilers as the team rallied in the third period.

The Oilers will be back on the ice on Tuesday night as they host the Utam Mammoth at Rogers Place.
