3 biggest questions for Golden State Warriors heading into 2026
1.) Will the Warriors finally offload Jonathan Kuminga?
Jonathan Kuminga has been far from fond during the past year with the Warriors. Kuminga has been in and out of Steve Kerr's rotation in the past year. The team also had a lengthy contract standoff with Kuminga before the season started.
Next year could finally see Kuminga's breakthrough, not with the Warriors, but with another team, if Golden State finally deals him to another squad.
Kuminga has only appeared in 18 games this season, averaging 11.8 points, and 6.2 rebounds per game. These are his worst numbers in the last three seasons.
Kuminga and the Warriors could finally see the end of their rough relationship in 2026 as he will be eligible for a trade starting on Jan. 15, ahead of the Feb. 5 trade deadline.
2.) Can Steve Kerr regain control of the Warriors?
Aside from a bumpy relationship with Jonathan Kuminga, Warriors head coach Steve Kerr also had a shouting match with Draymond Green last week, marking another incident that showed cracks in the team's dynamics.
Kerr, who had led the team to four NBA championships, is expected to maneuver the Warriors once more in 2026 towards another playoff run. However, the depth of their campaign hinges on how much he can regain control of the squad.
With veterans such as Green, Curry, and Butler on top of young guns, Kerr will have to deal with great pressure in steering the Warriors to another deep playoff run.
3.) Does Curry still have one great playoff push left in him?
Steph Curry has been the face of the Warriors' dynastic run from 2015 to 2022, a stretch where they won four NBA championships.
In 2026, the 37-year-old Curry will again be carrying the cudgels for the squad, albeit on worn-out legs and a roster full of inexperienced players and inconsistency.
The upcoming year would allow Curry to prove his greatness once more as the Warriors look to defy the uphill battle in the Western Conference.
