AEW delivered action-packed stories throughout the year. Tony Khan put on some incredible stories that were driven by motivation to succeed, and some were driven by jealousy. However, 2025 was also a year that witnessed many betrayals in the ring. Top factions got destroyed, and many names rose to the top following these major betrayals this year.

Names like Christian Cage were on the receiving end of a heartbreaking backstab that changed the landscape of All Elite Wrestling. Tony Khan spent months building and teasing these angles, and when they were finally revealed, they made a huge impact. However, some betrayals just came out of nowhere to surprise the fans.

Therefore, without further ado, let's talk about 3 betrayals in AEW that shocked everyone in 2025:

#3. Nick Wayne's betrayal of Christian Cage at All In 2025

Nick Wayne and The Patriarchy betrayed Christian Cage at All In Texas this year. It was an unexpected moment that made a significant impact on the All Elite locker room. Following the tag team match at the pay-per-view, Wayne surprised everyone by delivering a Killswitch to Cage in the center of the ring. Following this, Wayne once again delivered a beating to Christian on the episodes of Dynamite after All In.

This betrayal prompted the babyface turn of The Patriarch in All Elite Wrestling after a heel run of more than a year. Moreover, this turn had a major impact in the world of professional wrestling as it became the catalyst for the reunion of Edge and Christian after years. However, AEW failed to deliver on the feud between Cage and Wayne in the company following a shocking backstab.

#2. FTR betrayed Adam Copeland at AEW Dynasty

FTR and Adam Copeland had an impressive alliance earlier this year. However, at AEW Dynasty, Dax Harwood and Cash Wheeler decided to lay out their frustrations on the former WWE star. It marked one of the most heartbreaking betrayals this year. That moment transcended into a brutal feud between FTR and Copeland for the rest of 2025.

While Cope faced a two-on-one disadvantage for most of the feud, he got the support of his former best friend, Christian Cage, later on. Edge and Christian then went on to face FTR at All Out this year, where they were victorious. However, the betrayal was not enough for FTR, so they decided to attack Cope's wife, Beth Phoenix. Overall, the Dynasty betrayal marked the beginning of one of the best feuds for Edge in the past few years.

#1. HOOK joined The Opps by betraying Eddie Kingston's trust

HOOK was in a babyface alliance with Eddie Kingston from October to November this year. The 26-year-old was working as a singles star, and Kingston decided to keep him under his wing. It seemed like HOOK no longer had any connections with The Opps and Samoa Joe. But it was all a facade by the former FTW World Heavyweight Champion to trap the babyfaces.

At Full Gear 2025, HOOK showed up during the steel cage match between Hangman Page and Samoa Joe to attack The Anxious Millennial Cowboy. It marked the heel turn of the 26-year-old star to officially join The Opps. He then went on to talk ill about Eddie Kingston as well, to mark his breakup with The Mad King. It was one of the most important betrayals this year for AEW that certainly elevated HOOK to new heights.
