2 Yankees named finalists for All-Star Game; Aaron Judge locked in as starter

The New York Yankees have one of the best records in baseball, so it's understandable that they would have multiple players fighting for All-Star spots.

After the first phase of fan voting, Aaron Judge led all American League players in votes. His spot in the All-Star game is secure. However, Ben Rice and Paul Goldschmidt have been named finalists and will move on to the next round of voting. Phase 2 voting will run from noon on June 30 to noon on July 2.

Goldschmidt is a finalist alongside Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Goldschmidt has been great for the Yankees, both defensively and at the plate. He is slashing .288/.346/.432 with eight home runs. He is already a seven-time All-Star and former MVP.

Rice had to make his mark on the team with Goldschmidt blocking his job at first base. With Giancarlo Stanton hurt, Rice became the everyday designated hitter. He is having a breakout year. He has a .814 OPS and 14 home runs. He has doubled his home run total from last year in just 18 more games. He is a finalist alongside Ryan O'Hearn of the Baltimore Orioles.

Not only are Rice and Goldschmidt finalists, but they are both up against players on division rivals. It would be the first All-Star game selection for Rice.

They are not the only Yankees with a chance to get into the All-Star game with Judge, however. Pitchers are not voted on by fans. Pitchers and reserves will be announced on July 6, after Phase 2 voting is done.
