We need a kitten meme book for the group chat. Sometimes we don't need words to express our mood, but a kitten meme.

When the group chat asks how everyone is doing, we can each send our kittens and move on. No words are needed. My kitten meme would change several times a day. The kitten I send in the morning before checking my inbox is not the same kitten that represents me in the middle of the afternoon or in the evening when I get home. By lunchtime, I might need another kitten meme check.

The kittens can carry no useful information at all. They can be sent without context and still make everyone laugh. The idea is that the joke gets less and less understandable until the messages can't be explained to someone outside the group. The more absurd the kitten, the longer it survives in the group chat. Later, when you are making dinner plans, somebody uses a phrase that belongs to a kitten meme, and nobody explains it, but we all understand. And now we have to say it forever, or until we find a funnier meme to become obsessed with.

So consider this weekly delivery our group kitten meme check. Some will suit a particular mood, while others deserve to be saved for later because they are wonderfully silly, and that is all the justification they need. Although they don't represent you at the moment, you know that you'll soon find the perfect occasion to send each meme you save.

That's when you know the kitten meme book is working. Nobody needs to write an explanation beneath every picture. Your friends already understand the nonsense you are contributing, and reply to your nonsense with more nonsense in return. And if the meme makes absolutely no sense, send it anyway, because someone will appreciate it. The real compliment is when a friend sends one back because it reminded them of you. How flattering. Somebody saw a silly little face and thought of you instantly.
