Nick Shirley has said that he's allegedly received death threats after his video regarding the Somali daycare in Minnesota. He claimed that people have been trying to contact his family, including his sister, after he revealed an alleged fraud.

On December 26, Nick Shirley shared a video on YouTube and social media regarding the daycare institutes in Minnesota. In it, he was seen going to multiple such centers with a few people. He claimed in the over 40-minute video that these daycare centres were allegedly fraudulent and were using taxpayers' money.

Shirley appeared in the latest episode of the PBD Podcast, published on December 31, 2025. When the host asked if he had received any death threats, the right-wing YouTuber answered affirmatively, saying:

“They’re saying you’re going to be Kirked. You’ll be the next Kirk. Because it's not even, like, I hate what's happening right now. Like, I feel bad for my family, honestly, 'cause it's like, yeah, like, we didn't do anything wrong. And yet you guys are coming after me like I'm some sort of villain. Right? So I'm like, my little sister's getting phone calls. I'm like... Why are you guys doing this?" "Like, why are you guys coming after somebody for going against fraud? Like, I didn't make this a right or left issue. I just showed you guys that fraud was happening and now you guys are coming after me. You're saying, yo, I'll be the next kirk. You're you're literally stopping at intersections and coming after me and trying to attack me. Like, why are you so evil? Like, what's wrong with you?"

Nick Shirley further dismissed allegations of his being a racist. He highlighted the increasing cost of living in the US and claimed that he is just exposing the alleged fraud in Minnesota.

HHS freezes child care payments to Minnesota following Nick Shirley's fraud claims

Following Nick Shirley's viral video, there have been multiple investigations into these daycare facilities, which are largely run by Somali people. CBS claimed in a report on December 30 that they didn't find any evidence of fraud at these centres. However, the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has confirmed that it has frozen the payments to Minnesota for child care.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), HHS Deputy Secretary Jim O'Neill wrote:

"We have frozen all child care payments to the state of Minnesota. You have probably read the serious allegations that the state of Minnesota has funneled millions of taxpayer dollars to fraudulent daycares across Minnesota over the past decade."

O'Neill also referenced Nick Shirley's video, writing:

"Alex Adams and I have identified the individuals in @nickshirleyy's excellent work. I have demanded from a comprehensive audit of these centers. This includes attendance records, licenses, complaints, investigations, and inspections."

He added that HHS is starting a "fraud-reporting hotline" and that the ACF payments will now require evidence and justification. He added that the funds will only be released after evidence of legitimate spending.
