Yankees share harsh truth for outfielder Jasson Dominguez

No matter what Jasson Dominguez does, it's not going to change the logjam in the New York Yankees' lineup.

As an outfielder or a designated hitter, Dominguez just doesn't have anywhere to go.

The Yankees brought back Cody Bellinger and Trent Grisham. They still have Aaron Judge. And Giancarlo Stanton will be the every-day DH.

So what to make of Dominguez?

He was a top prospect and has tons of impressive tools (although his defense leaves plenty to be desired).

Last season, Dominguez got decent opportunities but not as much as he would've liked. And to start this season, it seems like it could be even less.

Yankees GM Brian Cashman admitted on MLB Network Radio on Sunday that Dominguez probably won't get a full-time look unless there's an outfield or DH injury.

At least his situation is better than power-hitting prospect Spencer Jones, who is behind Dominguez on the depth chart and destined to begin the season at Triple-A.

If you're the Yankees, it's a good problem to have. It's always better to have too much talent than not enough.

But they'll also have to be careful to keep Dominguez's confidence up even when he isn't playing every day, because at some point, they'll likely need him to deliver.

Dominguez certainly has the ability, but this won't be the smoothest start to the 2026 campaign for him.
