Yankees' outfield options if they fail to land Cody Bellinger or Kyle Tucker

New York Yankees fans may be panicking, but most of New York's top free agent targets are still available.

Still, it's been a slow offseason for general manager Brian Cashman. So far, the Yankees re-signed left-hander Ryan Yarbrough and infielder Amed Rosario, selected reliever Cade Winquest in the Rule 5 Draft, and saw outfielder Trent Grisham accept the qualifying offer.

Who will play left field next year? That's a question that requires an answer, but the waiting game for free agents Cody Bellinger and Kyle Tucker to make a decision may take some time.

If the Yankees lose out on both Bellinger and Tucker, the secondary plan is not as sexy.

Jasson Dominguez or Spencer Jones? Neither?

Rumors and logic suggest that Jasson Dominguez and Spencer Jones, at least one of the two, could be involved in a trade at some point to add starting pitching. The Yankees will begin the season without Gerrit Cole, Carlos Rodon, and Clarke Schmidt.

"Jones' strikeout rate in the minors would be the highest in the majors if they do promote him, and Dominguez is not the left fielder they need out there, with -10 outs above average, placing him in the second percentile among defenders," Erin Shapland of Sports Illustrated wrote Friday.

"Both young men are expected to improve with time and, according to Cashman, have earned a shot at the position if the opportunity is there, but it leaves the Yankees in a tight spot."

Otherwise, free agent outfielders like Austin Hays and Rob Refsnyder, a former Yankee, could platoon with Dominguez or Jones in left field.
