Yankees on verge of home run history not done since 1889 Chicago White Stockings

1 hour ago 2

The New York Yankees can confidently be called the Bronx Bombers.

They've got some of the game's best home run hitters, led by Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton.

And thanks to those two and more, the Yanks are set to make history in the season ahead.

They're entering the season with three of the top-five active leaders in home runs -- Judge, Stanton and Paul Goldschmidt.

The last time a team entered a season with three of the five active leaders in home runs was 1889, when the Chicago White Stockings did it. There had been a lot fewer home runs hit in baseball history up to that point.

The stat comes via NY Yankees Stats, which also shared the list of the five leaders:

MLB Active HR Leaders

453 Giancarlo Stanton
404 Mike Trout
372 Paul Goldschmidt
369 Manny Machado
368 Aaron Judge

The 2026 Yankees will be the 1st team to have 3 of the the top 5 active HR leaders entering the season since the 1889 Chicago White Stockings

Baseball Reference's Jessica Brand adds to the insight by sharing that those White Stockings had the Nos. 3, 4 and 5 guys on the list at the time: Fred Pfeffer 63, Cap Anson 62 and Ed Williamson 61.

This list of Yankees sluggers is also a reminder that Stanton has a pretty strong chance to reach 500 career home runs, potentially during the 2027 MLB season.

Judge also has a great shot at 500, but it'll take a few more seasons.

Certainly, it's not a bad thing to make positive home run history not done since 1889. Now, the Yankees will have to take those slugging swings into the season ahead and keep launching baseballs out of the ballpark.
