The New York Yankees might be sitting atop the American League East, but they are still in need of some more help for the roster, especially in the infield.
Anthony Volpe and Jose Cabellero, along with Ryan McMahon, have struggled a bit this season. But McMahon is going on the injured list with an ear and throat infection, leaving a roster spot open.
As Jack Curry of YES reports, the Yankees have decided to recall 27-year-old fan favorite infielder, Oswaldo Cabrera to take McMahon's roster spot. For the first time in over a year, Cabrera is back up in the big leagues.
Yankees promote Oswaldo Cabrera to MLB for first time in over a year
"Cabrera is being promoted to the Yankees," Curry reports. "McMahon is going on the IL with an ear/throat infection. #yankees."
This is a very exciting move for the Yankees, as the fan favorite infielder is getting another chance in the big leagues.
During the 2025 season, on May 12, Cabrera fractured his ankle sliding into home, which caused him to miss a lot of time, and has been one of the main reasons why he's not been back up in the Majors in the last year.
The 27-year-old infielder has a .234 batting average with 20 homers and a .641 OPS in 858 Major League at-bats, and this season at Triple-A, in 262 at-bats, he has seven homers with a .271 average and a .727 OPS.

But, in June, he has a .397 batting average with a .967 OPS in 73 at-bats, as he's been red-hot in the minors this month.
Hopefully, he can carry over his strong June into the big leagues and carve out a more stable role for himself in the Majors after some rough seasons in the Majors since his promising 2022 debut season.
Regardless of how he does in the big leagues this year, the addition of Cabrera to the Yankees' roster is a very fun one that fans should be excited about.
Cabrera is a fun promotion for the Yankees this season, as he's now getting another chance in the Majors, his first chance since his May injury during the 2025 season.
