Yankees' Jazz Chisholm is wearing a jersey number that NYY could consider retiring instead

1 hour ago 3

New York Yankees fans on social media lately have begun discussing retired jersey numbers.

That's in part because the Yanks announced that CC Sabathia's 52 will be retired later this season. And so it has brought to the table the number 13.

That's what Jazz Chisholm Jr. currently wears on the back of his jersey, but should it actually be retired?

There's a conversation to be had. It's the number Alex Rodriguez wore in the Bronx.

A-Rod won a World Series and two MVP awards while playing for the Yanks.

Rodriguez played 12 seasons for the Yankees overall, slugging 351 of his 696 homers there. He had a career .900 OPS with New York.

A-Rod is my 2nd favorite player ever.... I hold NOTHING against Jazz for wearing #13 (especially after Gallo embarrassed the number)

BUT

no Yankee should ever wear #2 again. Seeing a #2 pinstripes again in the field again is just wrong

The Yankees already have 24 retired jersey numbers, so maybe they'll have to stop adding more to the list at some point.

Rodriguez also had a tricky end with his suspension troubles, but when on the field, he was one of the best hitters to ever play for the Yankees.

As the post above refers to, Joey Gallo has also worn 13 in recent times for the Yanks, and he certainly didn't do it as much justice as Chisholm is.

It's a fascinating discussion, to be sure, because the Yankees have had so many all-time greats play for them.
