Yankees' Jazz Chisholm gets injury announcement on surprising return timeline

Jazz Chisholm has been missing from the Yankees lineup for a few weeks.

He was three tears in his oblique, a painful sounding injury, especially considering the significance of those side muscles for hitting.

But on Tuesday, New York manager Aaron Boone provided a positive update.

Via MLB.com's Bryan Hoch:

"(Chisholm) could resume hitting off velocity in the next few days, Aaron Boone said. Chisholm is asymptomatic. Boone added that Chisholm may need to play in one or two minor league games on rehab."

That pretty much sounds like a win for the Yankees.

Usually, rehab assignments will be longer than a game or two. That choice likely means Chisholm has gotten back up to speed more quickly than the Yankees expected.

New York could use him back at second base. The Yanks are currently cycling through underwhelming performers at both second and third.

Chisholm got off to a scorching start to the season, but by the time of his injury, his batting average had fallen to .181. He does have seven home runs in 105 at bats.
