Warriors favored in trade for $179 million star from West rival

The Golden State Warriors' postseason downfall centered around Stephen Curry's injury, but what it revealed may be just as important.

The Warriors need more scoring. Curry runs the whole show when he's healthy, but even then, Golden State doesn't have a boatload of secondary creators.

One offseason trade target could help change that.

Bovada's sportsbook lists the Warriors as the favorite to land Nuggets forward Michael Porter Jr. in a trade. Porter, who has made $179 million in his NBA career, is a candidate to be moved if Denver opts to go for a different look with its roster around Nikola Jokic and Jamal Murray.

Porter will turn 27 at the end of June.

He has played in six NBA seasons and has a career average of 16.2 points per game, putting up higher point totals than that each of the past three years.

Porter was a key third piece on the Nuggets' 2023 championship team, proof of concept for how he could help Golden State.

The Warriors seem committed to running it back with a core of Curry, Jimmy Butler and Draymond Green at least one more time. When Curry was healthy, that did seem like enough to genuinely contend for a title.

But in long NBA seasons, the more talent a team can have, the better. Porter would be a great pickup if a deal did indeed come to fruition.
