Yankees have the worst extra-innings hitting stats in MLB this season

The New York Yankees haven't been to extra innings too often this season.

But when they get there, they might as well concede.

Why's that?

It's because the Yankees are the worst hitting team in MLB in extra innings.

After their 1-0 loss to the Angels on Monday night, the Yankees are now 2-for-26 as a team in extras, according to Baseball Reference's Katie Sharp.

That equates to a .077 batting average. Both hits are singles.

The Yankees have scored just a single run, which came on a sacrifice fly. They've also walked four times and struck out eight.

The era of pitchers hitting is over, but there are many, many past pitchers who hit much better than that in their careers.

This is probably just a small-sample size fluke, and it also depends which part of the order the Yankees happen to be in when they reach extras.

But man, it's brutal, and the Yanks are definitely due for one big extra-innings eruption sooner rather than later.
