Former New York Yankees shortstop Didi Gregorius had big shoes to fill when he replaced Derek Jeter following the Hall of Famer's retirement in 2014.
Gregorius became an instant fan favorite in the Bronx and won the trust of the fanbase during his five seasons with the AL East club. Before he suits up for the Netherlands at the World Baseball Classic, the 35-year-old visited the Yankees' spring training facility in Tampa, Fla., on Tuesday.

Fans want Gregorius to replace Volpe
Fans have grown impatient with current with Anthony Volpe's development, the current Yankees shortstop. Volpe, a former first-round pick, has three consecutive seasons with an OPS of .666 or lower.
Several fans left comments on the X post of Gregorius taking hacks in the cage, pleading with the Yankees to sign him rather than let Volpe continue handling the shortstop duties.
"I've seen enough, he's still better than Volpe," one commented. "Sign him now!"
"I'm not joking, I think he'd be a better option than automatic out Volpe," another fan wrote.
New York's front office has shown confidence in Volpe's ability to bounce back from offseason labrum surgery, so he's not going anywhere any time soon.
