Right-hander Dom Hamel is on the waiver wire for a fourth time this offseason, cut loose by the New York Yankees on Wednesday.
The Yankees originally claimed the 26-year-old off waivers from the Texas Rangers last Tuesday. He has appeared on three clubs' 40-man rosters this winter but may not end up pitching for any of them thanks to four DFAs.
Hamel has just one Major League inning under his belt, allowing three hits and hitting a batter in his debut last year with the New York Mets. The NL East club announced in 2022 that Hamel was named their Minor League Pitcher of the Year.
How Hamel can remain with Yankees
Hamel could end up at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre as pitching depth with the Yankees if he goes unclaimed during the waiver process.
He had a 5.32 ERA in 67.2 Triple-A innings in 2025, but displayed above-average strikeout prowess, recording 75 punchouts.
Turning 27 in March, Hamel may have an easier time sticking with a club overseas, like in Japan or South Korea.
