The New York Yankees have lost Aaron Judge out of the lineup, a very concerning sign for an offense that already wasn't doing what it needed to do.
The Yankees are hopeful that Judge won't be out for long, though he has a bone bruise near his shoulder and doesn't sound fully healthy.
To say the Yankees need multiple guys to step up in a major way would be an understatement, as they're really going to have to battle it out from one to nine in this lineup to ensure they still have a chance to not only remain in the American League East picture but also be a World Series-contending type of team when Judge is out.
Speaking to reporters about that, arguably the Yankees' second-best hitter outside of Judge in terms of career accomplishments, Cody Bellinger, who has been incredible this year, ensured that they're all going to come out and be ready to go, no matter how long Judge is out for.
“Huge loss in the lineup and we all gotta pick it up around him,” Bellinger said, per SNY. “We all got to come out tomorrow and get ready to play.”
I never want to say that the Yankees should sit Judge if he's healthy, but even if something is nagging him right now, like the Yankees have said this shoulder injury is, it's probably better to just let him sit for a week or so, or even put him on the 15-day IL.
The Yankees are absolutely not good enough to have Judge not on this roster long term, as no team in Major League Baseball would be without this star player. For that reason and more, I'd suggest keeping him out of the box for at least a couple of days.
