Braves linked to trade idea for Giants' $90M Cy Young finalist, Gold Glover to pair with Chris Sale

The Atlanta Braves have found a way to win 42 games, but they don’t have a starting five that blows teams away. Atlanta knew coming into the season that its rotation wouldn’t be among the best after losing Spencer Schwellenbach and Hurston Waldrep to injuries.

It was assumed they would sign a starter, but they never did. Braves general manager Alex Anthopoulos noted that Atlanta wanted a starter with playoff experience.

“We’ve explored the starting rotation, adding and getting some type of starter, whether that’s trade or signing. We’d like for it to be someone impactful, someone we think can start a playoff game,” Anthopoulos said.

After not signing anyone or trading for a starter during the season, the Braves could still address the need at the trade deadline. 680 The Fan’s Matt Chernoff believes San Francisco Giants ace Logan Webb is the perfect target.

“San Francisco Giants ace, not having the best year, but he's got a history. And here's what Alex loves: If he's going to deal away prospects that he likes, you're going to have to have years left on your contract,” Chernoff said.

Webb would be a strong addition for Atlanta, as he is under control through the 2028 season. That kind of stability is exactly what the Braves’ rotation needs moving forward. Webb has struggled at times this season, but he delivered his best start against the Milwaukee Brewers on Wednesday night.

“Webb didn’t allow a baserunner until the 6th inning and didn’t allow his first hit until there was one out in the 7th inning. The Brewers offense was held completely in check. Webb went seven shutout innings, striking out five, and allowing just five hard-hit balls all night,” Brew Crew Ball’s Dave Gasper wrote.

Slotting Webb at the top of the rotation alongside Chris Sale and Spencer Strider would give the Braves a formidable postseason trio. Webb also brings valuable October experience, which aligns with what Anthopoulos is seeking.

Webb is on a $90 million deal with the Giants, so he isn’t overly expensive from a long-term payroll standpoint. The Braves are a quality starter away from going toe-to-toe with any team in the league, and Webb would give them exactly that.
