What a disappointing end to the season it was for the New York Yankees, showing that multiple things have to change over the next couple of months for this team to get where it needs to be.
Ultimately, the Yankees weren't good enough on the offensive side of the baseball and wasted a pitching staff that was arguably the best in the game. It's unfortunate that the Yankees are in this position, but it feels like it's the same conversation every year.
While the Yankees' pitching was able to do what it had to do on the mound, and was part of the reason why New York even had a chance to win some of these games against the Tampa Bay Rays, it's never crazy to suggest that the front office is going to be interested in adding a few bullpen arms throughout the offseason.
The Yankees understand that to stay as good as they are on the mound, they'll need to add some new faces. A couple could be available, including left-hander Adrian Morejon. Morejon is among baseball's best left-handed relievers and will hit the market as a free agent after a couple of years with the San Diego Padres.
“Closers get all of the bullpen love, but very few relief pitchers have been more consistently dominant over the past three seasons than San Diego's Morejón. He relies heavily on his sinker, but his four-pitch arsenal was solid, leading to more than 100 strikeouts in 2026 alone. Maybe they even sign him as the closer after he set up admirably for Robert Suarez and Mason Miller for years? He'd also be a great target for eighth-inning duties in Paul Blackburn's stead,” Bleacher Report wrote.
Adding a left-hander with Morejon-type stuff would be electric for the Yankees, as he was among the elite in Major League Baseball last season.
He's coming off a year in which he posted 86 innings and struck out 107 hitters. Bringing that swing-and-miss stuff to New York would be a big boost for this Yankees bullpen.
