Xabi Alonso wants a new-look Real Madrid squad for the 2025/26 season as he aims to bring the club back up to standard.
Alonso has confirmed his exit from Bayer Leverkusen - with his contract expiring in June ahead of his anticipated return to Madrid - as Carlo Ancelotti takes on a fresh challenge with the Brazil national team.
All that is left is confirmation, with Alonso's intention an open secret, and transfer plans are already being laid in place by the former midfielder.
Trent Alexander-Arnold will join on a free transfer in the coming weeks and a deal for Bournemouth defender Dean Huijsen has already been wrapped up.
Alonso will have a sizeable transfer budget to work with, but club president Florentino Perez is keen to offload unwanted players, to finance some of the incoming deals.
As per reports from Diario AS, Alonso will sit down with five current Los Blancos stars to discuss their futures, but all five could still be sold on.

Xabi Alonso's Real Madrid sale plan: Rodrygo and Alaba to leave
The headline name potentially moved on by Alonso is Brazil international Rodrygo Goes with the versatile forward frustrated at his lack of prominence in the last 12 months.
Real Madrid's No.11 is reportedly unhappy at feeling sidelined by the arrival of Kylian Mbappe and Alonso is expected to partner the Frenchman with Vinicius Junior is his attack next season.
That could further reduce Rodrygo's role, and a host of Premier League sides are monitoring the situation, as Real Madrid aim to bring in at least €80m [$90m] if he requests to leave.

An exit for Rodrygo would bring in the most sizable fee, with veteran David Alaba also on Alonso's hit list, as he moves into the final year of his contract.
Injuries have been an issue for the Austrian in recent months, and a resolution to settle his contract as a free agent is an option, with a transfer value of around €10m [$11.1m].
The three borderline calls for Alonso focus elsewhere in his squad, on left-back Ferland Mendy, and midfield duo Eduardo Camavinga and Dani Ceballos.
Mendy has also struggled to maintain full fitness in 2025, with Benfica's Alvaro Carreras eyed as a possible replacement, if Los Blancos can bring in €40m [$45m] for Mendy.
Camavinga and Ceballos will both be informed of their status as back up players by Alonso, and if that's accepted they can stay, but exit prices are set at €40m [$45m] and €40m [$22.5m] respectively.
