Former WWE manager Jim Cornette recently spoke about John Cena's final matches. The star has two dates remaining on his retirement tour.
John Cena was in Madison Square Garden this past Monday for his final RAW appearance. The star was confronted by Dominik Mysterio for an IC title rematch. He also teamed up with Sheamus and Rey Mysterio in a six-man tag team match against "Dirty" Dom, Finn Balor, and JD McDonagh.
On a recent episode of Jim Cornette's Drive Thru, the wrestling veteran mentioned that Saturday Night's Main Event was not a major show like the big four PLEs. He felt Gunther was being groomed as the final opponent for Cena, and the 17-time World Champion would do the honors for the Ring General on his way out. However, Cornette was not sure if the IC title would be on the line during the legend's last match.
"Therein lies the problem because the Last Time is Now. The last actual match is gonna be December 13 on Saturday Night's Main Event, which is not gonna be as important an event now that it is just on Peacock or whatever, than a big show like Survivor Series. At the same time, I was thinking Gunther is gonna win this tournament, and maybe Cena puts Gunther over on the way out. Now Cena's got the Intercontinental title. Is that a way to get the Intercontinental title back to Gunther so that he has some bragging rights? We haven't established whether or not it would have to be for the title now."John Cena will face Dominik Mysterio
In his final PLE appearance, John Cena will defend the Intercontinental Championship against "Dirty" Dominik Mysterio.
Cena became a Grand Slam Champion after dethroning Mysterio during his final appearance in Boston on the November 10 edition of RAW. The Judgment Day member has been eager to regain his title and laid out a challenge for John at Survivor Series in San Diego.
It will be interesting to see if the G.O.A.T. can retain his Intercontinental Championship next weekend.
