WWE Champion Cody Rhodes to reform Seth Rollins' former faction after 9 years? Exploring the possibility

Last week, Cody Rhodes invaded Drew McIntyre's home to attack him during the Scotsman's private meeting with Nick Aldis to discuss the terms of his reinstatement. The incident has seemingly caused friction between The American Nightmare and Aldis, as seen on last week's SmackDown.

That said, what if it's all a ruse, and Rhodes and Aldis are in cahoots? The Undisputed WWE Champion could be working with the SmackDown general manager to reform an iconic faction from Seth Rollins' past: The Authority.

During its tenure, The Authority was run by people in power and their hand-picked stars. While the faction disbanded in April 2016, Cody Rhodes and Nick Aldis could revive it after The American Nightmare potentially turns heel. Rhodes has been acting more aggressively than usual and could be on the verge of embracing his dark side.

Rhodes' rivalry with Drew McIntyre could see a shocking double turn, as The American Nightmare could turn heel and the Scotsman could turn babyface. Rhodes has already defeated McIntyre twice in the feud. If The Scottish Warrior loses another match clean, it could seriously damage his credibility.

Therefore, the Triple H-led creative team must figure out a way to have Cody Rhodes retain the Undisputed WWE Championship without making McIntyre look weak. An effective way to accomplish that would be to have Rhodes turn to the dark side and align with Nick Aldis to screw The Scottish Warrior.

Aldis and Rhodes could call themselves The Authority and wreak havoc on SmackDown. The Authority is one of the most hated factions of all time, and reviving it would put massive heat on QB1 and the SmackDown general manager. That said, this is just speculation, and nothing has been confirmed.

WWE Hall of Famer believes Cody Rhodes could turn heel due to his rivalry with Drew McIntyre

Many felt that Cody Rhodes' fiery promo on last week's SmackDown sounded heelish, including the WWE Hall of Famer Mark Henry, who spoke about this on the Busted Open Podcast.

Henry believed Drew McIntyre could push The American Nightmare to embrace his dark side.

"Maybe it's the fact that Drew McIntyre is bringing this side of Cody out. The way that he's pushing Cody's buttons, if Cody don't find his own identity, we might lose Cody to the dark side... He is not just trying to win the title, he's trying to break Cody," Henry said.

It will be interesting to see how this storyline develops in the coming weeks.
