WWC signs current IWA World Champion in the Puerto Rican Heist of the Century

World Wrestling Council (WWC) has today broken the news that they have signed IWA World Champion “The Great” John Hawking to their roster.

Hawking is currently the IWA World Heavyweight Champion, and is reported to have signed a multi-year contract with WWC, which will solidify a new historic era for Puerto Rican wrestling.

The report from Michael Morales Torres of Lucha Libre Online noted that this will now mark a turning point for WWC, who will kick off 2026 with a fully stocked roster, and the signing of Hawking shows the intent.

Hawking is known throughout Puerto Rico and is already the IWA World Heavyweight Champion, which shows the calibre that the company are now looking at heading into the new year.

The World Wrestling Council roster already boasts the likes of former WWE World Champion Alberto Del Rio, former WWE stars Carlito and Eddie Colon as well as Andrade, who recently departed WWE and has been linked to AEW despite ongoing personal issues.

WWC kicks off its year with Batalla de Leones in a week's time

World Wrestling Council will kick off their new year with Batalla de Leones, which takes place on January 3rd, at 8:00 p.m. at the Salvador Dijols Coliseum in Ponce.

This will then lead to Euphoria on Saturday, January 24 at 8:00 p.m. at the Pepín Cestero Coliseum in Bayamón as the World Wrestling Council looks to set the tone for a new year with some of the biggest names in wrestling now part of their roster.

The company will also present Aniversario 53 on Saturday, June 27, starting at 4:00 p.m. at the Roberto Clemente Coliseum in San Juan.

Puerto Rican wrestling is on the rise, and this announcement comes on the back of a report that states that WWE will be returning to the country for Backlash again in 2026.
