Real Madrid fans on social media have criticized Xabi Alonso after his side failed to secure a victory against Rayo Vallecano. Both sides were in action in the La Liga on Sunday, November 9, and the encounter ended goalless (0-0).

During the encounter, Los Blancos were presented with a decent opportunity to take the lead in the 23rd minute. However, Vinicius' effort was thwarted by Augusto Batalla, who pulled off an excellent save to stop the ball from going into the back of the net.

One minute later (24'), Raul Asencio failed to direct his header into the net, and the scoreline remained unchanged. After the break (51’), Jorge de Frutos squandered a decent opportunity to give the hosts the lead, placing his effort wide of the left post.

In the 67th minute, Rayo Vallecano's Alvaro Garcia also failed to beat Thibaut Courtois as his efforts flew inches over the bar. Thus, the game ended 0-0 as both teams were forced to share the spoils.

Meanwhile, Real Madrid enjoyed 54% of the ball possession during the clash. They also created only one big chance, registered 21 shots, five of which were on target, but failed to score.

After the encounter, fans who were unimpressed with Los Blancos' performance criticized Alonso. Others suggested Real Madrid might fail to win a trophy under his managerial reign and called for his dismissal, with one tweeting:

"Worst manager of all time."

Los Blancos manager Xabi Alonso has revealed that he and his squad need to examine their individual performances. He also suggested that the squad needs to pinpoint areas they respectfully need to work on.

In an interview after the 0-0 draw against Rayo Vallecano, Alonso said (via Madrid Xtra):

"We need to do self-criticism. It has to be a constructive criticism."

Despite dropping points against Rayo Vallecano, Los Blancos will go into the upcoming international break as the league leaders, having secured 31 points from 12 games. They are five points ahead of second-placed Villarreal in the standings.
