World top four teams to compete in Women’s Rugby World Cup semi-finals

After a packed weekend of rugby, New Zealand, Canada, France and England have all booked their tickets to the semi-finals of the Women’s Rugby World Cup.

These nations make up the top four ranked teams in the world, with England in top spot, followed by Canada, New Zealand and France.

What were the quarterfinal results?

New Zealand were the first team to be confirmed in the semi-finals, as they beat South Africa 46 - 17 after struggling to get into gear early in the game.

They will face Canada, who qualified after beating Australia in Bristol last night 46-5.

The second semi-final was decided today as Ireland faced France and Scotland fought England.

England enjoyed a resounding victory over Scotland, winning 40 - 8, whilst France had a more fraught 80 minutes.

They trailed for the first 60 minutes of the game before managing to edge ahead 18 - 13. Ireland tried for some last minute points during extra time, but it was ultimately to no avail, meaning Les Bleues are through to the semi-final at Ashton Gate.

Semi-final nations predictions

Old rivals France and England last faced each other in the warm-up matches ahead of the World Cup, when the Red Roses beat Les Bleues 40 - 6 in 35 degree heat. It will be a very different forecast in wet West Country, with rain and wind aplenty.

New Zealand, who are the reigning champions with two World Cup titles in a row, drew against Canada in their last encounter back in May of this year.

This means that both semi-finals are set to be electric, incredibly close games that could go either way, in front of the ever growing crowds that the Women’s Rugby World Cup keeps bringing in.
