Team World came roaring back to one-up Team Europe on Day 2 (Saturday, December 27) of the World Tennis Continental Cup 2025. Iga Swiatek and Belinda Bencic gave the Europeans a 2-0 lead at the end of the first day thanks to their wins over Elena Rybakina and Wang Xinyu respectively.
Zhang Zhizhen kicked off Team World's comeback on the second day with a 7-6 (5), 6-3 win over Flavio Cobolli. Wang scored the upset of the tournament with her 6-2, 6-3 win over Swiatek, needing only 70 minutes to stun the World No. 2.
Valentin Vacherot almost put Team Europe in the lead. However, Andrey Rublev saved two match points in his epic 2-6, 7-6 (5), 10-7 comeback win. The mixed doubles contest decided whether Team World would end the day in the lead, or if Team Europe would fight back to level the proceedings.
Zhang and Wang joined forces for a tussle with Bencic and Cobolli. It looked like the European pair would stop their opponents' rampage on the second day after claiming the first set, and then going 4-2 up in the second set.
However, Zhang and Wang kept their team's hopes of a clean sweep alive. They fought back to force a tie-break but couldn't get over the finish line. Bencic and Cobolli held firm to win the match 6-3, 7-6 (3), giving their team their only win of the day. With neither team having the upper hand entering the final day, the tournament is heading for an exciting conclusion.
