Woman killed in East Harlem scaffolding collapse after garbage truck crash

A woman was killed when a garbage truck crashed into a car in East Harlem which sent scaffolding collapsing into the street Tuesday morning, police said.

The truck crashed into an unattended parked Kia Forte at the corner of E. 101st Street and 1st Avenue just before 6:30 a.m., according to cops.

The impact forced the Kia onto the sidewalk and into the scaffolding in front of 345 E. 101st Street, causing it to crumple and fall on top of a woman who was standing underneath, cops said.

The unidentified woman was declared dead at the scene.

The garbage truck driver, a 47-year-old man, and a passenger, a 50-year-old man, were both taken to a local hospital in stable condition.

No criminality is suspected at this time but the crash remains under investigation by NYPD’s Highway District’s Collision Investigation Squad.
