Viewers of the 2025 Miami Dolphins vs. New York Jets Week 4 game held their breath as Tyreek Hill suffered a gruesome leg injury. The speed demon built his career on elite, elusive speed, and one of his two weapons was dislocated.
Since September 29, Hill has been recovering from a dislocated knee, along with multiple torn ligaments, in his left leg. While he stayed positive even as he was being carted off the field at Hard Rock Stadium, the receiver shared an update on Wednesday that showed he isn't ready for a return just yet.
It may happen if he heals up, but for now, the 32-year-old needs to do two things in order to play in the NFL again.
Here's the rundown on whether fans can expect to see the wide receiver back on the gridiron this season.

Tyreek Hill leg injury recovery timeline
According to Hill, it's been 10 months since he dislocated his knee and tore multiple ligaments in his left leg. The wide receiver has said he has gone through two surgeries and appears to be staying in a positive mindset.
Recovery timelines for a dislocated knee cap depend on how severe the injury is, according to Wexner Medical Center. While Hill will have access to top-notch healthcare as an NFL athlete, it will most likely take around 9-12 months for him to be ready, per Commons Clinic.
While Hill has stayed positive, his most recent update told fans he is still a ways away from returning. His left leg is still progressing through rehab, and he is still developing the strength in the muscles.

Tyreek Hill leg rehab video
On Wednesday night, Hill shared a rehab video on his X, formerly known as Twitter, account that showed how he has been progressing. He was captured participating in leg exercises and walking in a pool after his Sept. 29 gruesome leg injury during the Dolphins' Week 4 matchup against the Jets.

— Ty Hill (@cheetah) July 23, 2026"When they told me I would not be able to walk in, and the doctor was like, 'bro, we don't know what's going to happen with your future;' now look at me," Hill told fans. "So it's about 10 months after doing two surgeries. I have no power in my left leg at all, so I'm trying to regain all the power back in my left leg. But it's one day at a time.
“I ain’t going to tell you what my timeline is, but timeline looking real good right now, man,” Hill said.
What happened to Tyreek Hill?
During Miami's Week 4 27-21 victory over the Jets last season, New York defensive back Malachi Moore grabbed Hill's right leg as the receiver made a catch near the sideline. As the Dolphins receiver went to stabilise himself with his left leg, his knee appeared to hyperextend, and Hill fell forward.
In the process, Hill's upper body twisted 180 degrees backwards while his lower half stayed put. After an awkward fall, the receiver remained on the gridiron with a visibly injured leg.
After the 2025-26 season concluded, Miami released the eight-time Pro Bowler, making him a free agent for the first time in his 10-year NFL career.

Will Tyreek Hill play in 2026?
It remains unclear whether Hill will be able to play during the 2026 NFL season. Two things need to happen for the former star to make his return to the league.
First, Hill must complete his full rehab and show teams that his left leg is 100 percent healed. If he is able to demonstrate that he is ready for NFL-level contact and speed, a team would then have to sign Hill as a free agent.
