Diego Pavia is in search of a new football home ahead of training camp.
The Baltimore Ravens waived the former Vanderbilt star on Thursday to make room for new free agent signing Ethan Pocic. Pavia was one of a few quarterbacks set to compete for the Ravens third-string quarterback position behind Lamar Jackson and Tyler Huntley in Baltimore.
Pavia was a Heisman Trophy finalist last year, but NFL team's don't seem to be enamored by that production. The 24-year-old will have to find a new team to try and prove himself in order to catch on somewhere in the NFL.

Why did the Ravens waive Diego Pavia?
The Ravens waived Pavia ahead of training camp since the team already has a crowded quarterback room. Of course, Lamar Jackson is the team's starter, but Baltimore also has Tyler Huntley as the backup and Joe Fagnano and Skylar Thompson as the third- and fourth-string quarterbacks.
Therefore, there are not enough reps in training camp to go around for all five quarterbacks, so the Ravens chose to waive Pavia. Additionally, the Ravens needed to make room for center Ethan Pocic, whom the team recently signed to a contract.

Diego Pavia Ravens contract?
After going undrafted, Pavia signed a three-year non-guaranteed contract with Baltimore that would've given him about $885,000 this year. Pavia also didn't receive a signing bonus, meaning the Ravens were able to waive him without being on the hook for any money.

PAvia spent the first two years of his college career at the New Mexico Military Institute before transferring to New Mexico State in 2022. He then played two years for the Aggies and transferred to Vanderbilt in 2024, where he impressed in the SEC.
The 2025 season was Pavia's best, as he was a Heisman Trophy finalist for his career-high production. However, that was not enough for him to get drafted in the NFL.

Lamar Jackson is, of course, the Ravens undisputed starting quarterback as he is set to enter his ninth season in the NFL. Jackson played in 13 games last year as he battled injuries, but he missed just one game in the 2023 and 2024 seasons combined.
Behind Jackson is veteran backup Tyler Huntley, who has spent most of his career with the Ravens but did play some of the 2024 season with the Miami Dolphins. Huntley appeared in five games for Baltimore in 2025, which includes two starts and leading the Ravens to victories in both of those contests.
Finally, Joe Fagnano and Skylar Thompson are set to compete for the Ravens' third-string quarterback spot in training camp. Fagnano is a 25-year-old undrafted free agent out of UConn who produced over 5,000 yards passing and 48 passing touchdowns in the last two years for the Huskies. Thompson, meanwhile, is a veteran who has started games for the Dolphins, which includes a playoff start, but hasn't appeared in a game since 2024.
