Will Bryce James play tonight? What we know about Arizona’s plan for LeBron’s son

The Arizona Wildcats return to action on Tuesday night.

They'll take on an in-state foe, Northern Arizona, in a game Arizona will be heavily favored to win.

If indeed it is a blowout, that'll again raise the question of whether Bryce James sees the floor.

So far, the Wildcats are 2-0, but LeBron's younger son hasn't played a minute.

Will Bryce James play tonight?

It's not clear whether Bryce James will play on Tuesday night in Arizona's matchup with Northern Arizona, but there are some possible clues.

Consider Arizona's last game, a 93-67 win over Utah Tech.

The Wildcats were never going to lose that game, and by the late stages, they were up by more than 20 points.

Head coach Tommy Lloyd pretty much cleared the bench. A dozen players in all saw the floor, including seven reserves. Bryce wasn't one of them.

There's no indication that Bryce is hurt. Could Arizona be considering a redshirt?

At Big 12 Media Days, head coach Tommy Lloyd called redshirting a "possibility."

He added this: “The reason I say that (redshirting is a possibility) is because I believe in Bryce. If you didn’t believe in somebody, why would you spend extra resources on them or extra time?”

Lloyd went on to share a few more thoughts about Bryce at Big 12 Media Days:

“My job is to respect him as a person and help him with his own journey. And that’s our plan at Arizona. We got no extras. Let’s just help this kid develop into a great young man, and I think that’s what his family wants, and what he wants, and we’re gonna help him with that.”

While college football has a rule that allows appearances in four games and still redshirt, that doesn't exist in college basketball. If Bryce gets into a single game, this counts as a year of eligibility.

So watching what Arizona does with him in the next few games will be telling.
