Why Troy Franklin, J.K. Dobbins aren't playing for Broncos today with latest injury news

When the Denver Broncos take the field for the AFC Championship Game against the New England Patriots, they will be missing two key offensive players in wide receiver Troy Franklin and running back J.K. Dobbins.

Dobbins hasn't played since all the way back in Week 10, when he sustained a foot injury that required surgery and figured to knock him out for the rest of the season.

Franklin suffered a hamstring injury during the divisional round win that forced his early exit from the contest and ultimately led to him being ruled out on Sunday.

Here's the latest injury update on both players.

J.K. Dobbins injury update

Dobbins was designated to return from injured reserve this past week and turned in three limited practice but simply could not get ready in time after such a lengthy absence.

But if the Broncos advance past the Patriots on Sunday, Dobbins will have an extra week to get right with the bye, which puts him in play to return for the Super Bowl.

The Broncos will lean on rookie RJ Harvey and veteran Jaleel McLaughlin once again.

Troy Franklin injury update

Franklin was a limited participant in practice all week before drawing the questionable tag.

However, clearly Franklin's hamstring just wasn't in a good enough spot to play on Sunday, as he landed on Denver's inactives list.

Given his practice participation this past week and the fact that there is a bye next week, we would say he has a great chance to suit up if the Broncos can get past the Patriots on Sunday.
