The Cleveland Browns confused everybody by selecting Oregon quarterback Dillon Gabriel and Colorado QB Shedeur Sanders in the NFL Draft. Nobody expected Sanders to be around in the fifth round, so the Browns couldn't pass him up again due to the talent alone.
Moreover, questions remain about the browns QB room that includes an injured Deshaun Watson, Joe Flacco, and Kenny Pickett along with the two rookies.
Former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo spoke about Sanders' surprising NFL Draft slide, but he revealed why Gabriel and Sanders are in a "good situation" with Cleveland, per Ryan Sanudo of The US Sun.
"I think he and Dillon (Gabriel) are in a good situation because if a team drafts you, that means they like you," Romo said. "They're not drafting guys they don't like, and that's the one area that sometimes people miss the mark on a little is that it means that they saw something in you that's positive and that they want you to be a part of the organization."
The QB depth chart is a major toss-up at this point, and all four guys (not including Watson) should have a fair shot to win the job. But, Romo hopes Sanders can "maximize" the opportunity he has in the NFL.
"I think for [Sanders], it's just to maximize his opportunities and to improve daily and I think you'll find real quick right when you get to the NFL, you'll find what you have to improve upon and you try to make your weaknesses and capitalize on your strengths when they're there," Romo said.
