Why Sophie Cunningham isn't playing tonight for Fever with injury news

The Indiana Fever got some good news on Thursday afternoon when it was announced Caitlin Clark would be available for their matchup with the Chicago Sky.

The injury update for Sophie Cunningham wasn't as positive.

Cunningham was ruled out at about 4:45 p.m. ET.

She'll be the only absence for the Fever, but her usual positive contributions off the bench will be missed.

Why isn't Sophie Cunningham playing tonight?

Cunningham is missing on Thursday night due to injury.

It's a right elbow ailment that will keep Cunningham out of action. Of note, that is her shooting arm.

She was previously listed as questionable heading into gameday, so it doesn't seem like it's too long-term an absence for Cunningham.

Cunningham is averaging 8.7 points per game this season.

Without her, Lexie Hull will certainly see a full allotment of minutes, and the Fever could have to dip deeper into their bench, as well.

The Fever play again on Saturday, so if Cunningham is going to make a quick return, it'll be a pretty rapid turnaround.
