For well over a year now, the Boston Red Sox have seen Jarren Duran's name pop up in trade rumors. The rumors first ramped up with a strong link to the San Diego Padres during the 2025 MLB season.

More teams were linked to Duran leading up to the 2025 trade deadline, but he stayed in Boston. Then, over the offseason, more rumors popped up, with the Houston Astros emerging as one landing spot among plenty of others.

But those rumors have not amounted to a trade for over a year now. David Schoenfield of ESPN believes that the Duran trade rumors might finally come to a head this offseason, as it might finally be time for the Red Sox to trade Duran and move on from the outfielder.

Red Sox could finally end Jarren Duran trade rumors this offseason

"Duran is clearly fourth on the depth chart," Schoenfield writes. "His trade value took a nosedive, but he still somehow has two years left of team control and the Red Sox will find a team willing to take a chance on him."

While Duran hasn't been the same player he once was in 2024, when he was the All-Star Game MVP and led MLB in doubles (48), triples (14), and posted 9.0 bWAR in an incredible season, he's still worth something.

The Red Sox are not going to be able to get a haul for Duran, not after posting 0.4 bWAR in 2026 with a .207 batting average and a .627 OPS.

Still, Duran will be 30 years old next season and is under control through 2028. Some team in need of outfield help, especially at a reasonable financial cost, will look to add someone like Duran this offseason.

Red Sox fans should expect to hear more about Duran trade rumors this offseason, especially with Duran clearly the fourth-best outfield on the team behind Roman Anthony, Wilyer Abreu, and Ceddane Rafaela.

Keeping Duran wouldn't be the worst option, but it makes a lot more sense to trade him to a team in pursuit of upgrades elsewhere on the roster.

Whether it's more pitching help, an upgrade in the infield, or simply some prospect capital, trading Duran this offseason would be worthwhile for the Red Sox.

Schoenfield seems to believe the rumors might finally come to an end this offseason, with a Duran trade seeming to be a lot more likely during the 2026-2027 offseason than ever before.
