Why Mason Rudolph is playing QB for Steelers after Aaron Rodgers injury news

The Pittsburgh Steelers considered playing Aaron Rodgers on Sunday against the Chicago Bears despite a small fracture in his left wrist.

But in the end, Rodgers won't be playing. Mason Rudolph will start at QB.

Multiple reports late Sunday morning indicated that Rodgers didn't have quite enough time to get back.

So it's Rudolph against the Bears, with Will Howard as his backup.

Why is Mason Rudolph playing QB for Steelers, not Aaron Rodgers?

Rudolph is starting for the Steelers on Sunday because Rodgers is injured.

Rodgers sustained a small fracture in his left wrist in Week 11 against the Bengals.

On Thursday and Friday of this week, Rodgers practiced in a limited capacity. He wore a stabilizer on that left wrist.

He went into the weekend with a questionable tag, and reports indicated Rodgers wanted to play.

But about 45 minutes before the official inactive report came out, insiders shared that Rodgers wouldn't be playing and that Rudolph would be starting.

Rudolph is reliable and should do just fine, and the Steelers will hope Rodgers can get back sooner rather than later.
