Martha Stewart Details Her “Essential” Keys to Success (Exclusive)

Kate Mara’s birthday celebration had an unexpected guest.

The Imperfect Women star revealed her big plans to watch Wuthering Heights with just five friends at a quaint theater in her town on her birthday, detailing how Martha Stewart became a surprise guest.

“On the day of my birthday,” Kate, 43, recalled on the March 17 episode of Late Night with Seth Meyers. “I got an email from the theater saying, ‘Oh my gosh we’re so embarrassed, we have a new employee, and they got a call from Martha Stewart’s assistant saying Martha would love to rent out the theater tonight to watch Wuthering Heights.’”

“And the new employee didn’t know the rules,” she continued. “And so, they said, ‘Oh no sorry Kate Mara’s rented it out.’ Then they said you might get a call from Martha, and I thought, well that’s nice, she might wish me a happy birthday.”

Kate—who shares a daughter born in 2019 and a son born in 2022 with her husband Jamie Bell—went on to explain that the lifestyle expert found another way to reach out: her mom.

“My mother actually got an email from Martha cause they’re friendly,” she said. “And the email said basically, ‘Please ignore this if this is completely inappropriate but I hear you daughter has rented out the theater and me and my banker Jane are just dying to see Wuthering Heights, can we crash her birthday party? We’ll sit in the back row.’”

Kate was happy to add two more guests to watch the Jacob Elordi and Margot Robbie-led adaptation of the Emily Brontë novel, adding, “I said, ‘Of course she can come.’ And she was there.”

As for a picture to commemorate her and Martha’s impromptu movie date? Kate’s friend failed to capture the moment.

“Unfortunately, they were so subtle about it,” she quipped. “That they took a picture of just us and not Martha and Jane.”
