Why Jayson Tatum isn't playing tonight for Celtics vs. Thunder with injury news

1 hour ago 3

An incredible NBA game is on tap for Thursday night. The Boston Celtics are taking on the Oklahoma City Thunder in a clash that will be broadcast on Amazon Prime Video.

One thing will be missing, though: Jayson Tatum.

The superstar has made his return recently from his torn right Achilles, but he's ruled out Thursday night.

The Thunder aren't at full strength, either, as both Jalen Williams and Isaiah Hartenstein are ruled out, as well.

Tatum will be the biggest missing face.

Why isn't Jayson Tatum playing tonight?

Jayson Tatum is out Thursday night due to injury management, not an actual new injury.

The Celtics had Tatum on the injury report Thursday morning listed as questionable due to injury management for his right Achilles.

About 2 p.m. ET, the Celtics changed his designation to out.

Tatum has played three games since his return, with these stats in order from game one to game three:

  • 27 minutes, 15 points, 12 rebounds 7 assists
  • 27 minutes, 20 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assists
  • 26 minutes, 24 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists

Tatum is shooting 9-for-31 through just three games since his return. He hasn't been shy.

The Celtics' next game after Thursday is Saturday against the Wizards. As long as Tatum is back for that one, there's no real reason here for concern.
